Wow.
After almost a year since returning from West Bank, our talented UPROOTING QAHR! film team have create a powerful rough cut of the short film. We hosted two rough cut screenings this week!!!
The first was on May 19th in collaboration with the Middle East Justice Project. This public sneak peak screening welcomed supporters who have journeyed with use from the start as well as people who had never heard of the project before. We were so grateful for the reception of this work. We appreciated the reflections and feedback provided as we work to finalize this short film this summer.
The second preview was in collaboration with the Mountain Media Arts Collective which co-hosts Film Feedback Screening Labs. These labs being filmmakers and media artists together to provide peer to peer feedback.
We are happy to report that this group was also moved by the piece and encouraged us to keep going. They also provided rich technical feedback.
Up Next: Impact Campaign & Educational Modules
Now that the film, script, and performance components have been shaped, we are ready to build out the educational materials and learning modules. Themes include human rights, civic engagement, policy, and environmental stewardship.
In 1995, Taishya began her first career in public education working for the Children’s Defense Fund Freedom School. An outgrowth of the Black Panther Party and Student Nonviolence Coordinating Committee, CDF Freedom Schools® provides summer and after-school enrichment through a research-based and multicultural program model that supports K-12 scholars and their families through five essential components:

high-quality academic and character-building enrichment,

parent and family involvement,

civic engagement and social action,

intergenerational servant leadership development,

nutrition, health, and mental health.
Since then, Taishya and the Mukuyu Collective have developed curriculum and facilitated hundreds of trainings for middle and high schools, colleges and universities, as well as, nonprofits and governmental agencies. We cannot wait to reimagine public education and schooling as we respond to the deconstruction of our current educational systems.
