As we confront the anniversary of January 6th and the full pardon for treason to the insurrectionists, I cannot unsee the parallels with the full pardon of Confederate soldiers and officials after the Civil War. There is an intergenerational failure to hold accountable those who threaten life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness for all.
The Uprooting Qahr Experience unpacks these parallels reconnecting the ties that bind our human experiences – past, present, and future. From the Colorado Rockies to West Asia and the Deep South, Uprooting Qahr navigates the promise of democracy, the spread of colonialism, and the pathways to liberty and justice for all.
As a Living Room Series host, you invite 8-15 participants for a potluck and performance. The performance takes about 2 hours including time to eat and group discussions. The Mukuyu team will provide a registration link that the host can use along with promotional materials (e.g. postcard, flyer). The Mukuyu team is also responsible for all technical needs for the performance including screen, laptop, projector, instruments, and materials. The host is responsible for participant invitations and managing the potluck as well as clearing space for the performance.
Through film, music, and narratives, the Living Rooms series unpacks the sadness, frustration, anger caused by displacement, dispossession and discrimination while also shining a light of hope towards collective liberation. Qahr (n): an Arabic word for the combined feelings of Sadness, frustration, anger caused by intergenerational displacement, dispossession and discrimination.
Uprooting Qahr is a Mukuyu Collective Production in partnership with eight16creative, Lopez-Wagner Strategies. Climate Justice Hive, a 501(c)3 nonprofit, serves as our fiscal sponsor.
