Meet Selasee
This is not the first time that Taishya and Selasee will share the stage. Last year, Taishya joined Selasee for three performances including Boulder’s Band on the Bricks (see video below), the St. Julien Hotel, and Boulder Roots Project.
Selasee, originally from Ghana, is a singer/songwriter who explores reggae music influenced by pop and the west African highlife music genres. He is the founder of the Blackeye Watching Records LLC and leader of the band Selasee now based in Colorado.
On the touring circuit, Selasee has shared the stage with reggae legends including Steel Pulse, The Wailers, Third World, The Mighty Diamonds, etc.
Meet Nicholas
Taishya met Nicholas through another Vassar College alum! Nicholas recently earned his Doctorate in Music and was recently awarded the Emerging Star award for the 2026 Boulder Arts Week!
Taishya and Nicholas at our first meeting to discuss the project. Nicholas Felder (he/him) is a Black queer artist, composer-vocalist, activist, and educator who creates art around identity, communal joy and healing, and youth empowerment. He builds community in art-making, unlocking truths around self-identity, and creates a space for embodied expression. Nicholas has led educational programs and workshops with numerous arts organizations, such as the Detroit Symphony Orchestra, American Composers Orchestra, the
Denver Young Artists Orchestra, and Sphinx Organization. He loves to encourage young adults to express their social and political views through artmaking.

About Uprooting Qahr!
Uprooting Qahr! Power, Privilege, Paperwork explores the uneven promise of democracy, threat of state sanctioned terror, and intergenerational resistance from Europe to Africa to America, and West Asia through songs, monologues and teaser of the film! Though music, monologues, and film, Taishya – educator, artist, policymaker – shares personal and political histories that bind us across time and space. ,
